At least not today

Today, I woke up lighthearted,
And as much as I hate traffic jams
One made me smile today

Because beyond the nose to nose cars
Pestering hawkers and teeming bodies

Someone’s child
Blew bubbles from a tube
Through their car window
Over the car in front of us
And off towards the atlantic

Reminding me
Of days with fewer worries
And nights with star-filled skies

I don’t hold the weight of the world anymore
At least not today

For example, I did a little trivia yesterday to see people that knew me well and those that got all the answers won two N500 OFF coupons to purchase any of my books😌. Edit: I just finished watching ‘Land of Fury’ by @damilolamikebamiloye on YouTube. And I went to watch it because of the song ‘Nasara’ by @jay_mikee ft @kaestrings . I heard the song for the first time yesterday on my cousin’s WhatsApp status, thanks @thegraceojay, and I basically fell in love with it, played it severally till I convinced myself to go watch the 2018 movie. Moral of the story - Watching the movie helped me realize how timely the poem above is. When I was writing it, I didn’t know where it was going till I finished and saw how it could depict the toxic influence the devil, through temptations and even people, sometimes has on our actions. It also shows starkly. the polar opposite of this that is God’s love. And if you go watch the movie too, you’ll understand what I mean even better🥺. It’s on YouTube guys, I thoroughly recommend it. I just came to make this edit to share with you. Happy Easter fam, Jesus is risen!❤️

There was no such thing as being jinxed.
As I left work that evening, Dunni called me and asked “Do you believe in being jinxed?”

“Of course not.” I answered her with certainty in my voice. “But why?”
“It’s simply because I think that for every action, there is always a corresponding reaction. Therefore there is a logical reason for everything that happens. There is really nothing called a jinx.” I answered her proudly with no doubt in my mind. But I still had a strange feeling of dejavu.

“Okay then, there is a myth that…” I cut her off before she could continue. “Hm hm. Not this time.” I muttered loud enough for only me to hear.

“What?” She asked. “Sorry Dunni. I’m in a hurry because I have a date. See you on Monday, okay?”
“But I was going to say…” she started again. “Dunni, enjoy the rest of your day okay. Bye!” I cut her off again and waved as I walked out of the building.

Whew! That was close.

Now, to convince myself-THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS BEING JINXED.

‘What’s on your mind?’ (READ ME)

‘You.’ He said it simply. No holdbacks. And it unnerved her.

‘Huh?’

‘You are on my mind.’ He repeated.

‘Really?’ She didn’t know what else to say.

‘Yes. You’ve been on my mind since the first day I met you.’

Asides the fact that he was being incredibly cheesy and corny, warning bells rang in her head and she mentally withdrew.

‘Oh-kay.’

‘I’m serious o. I mean, I can’t even give a good reason for calling. I just knew I wanted to talk to you, maybe even see you. I like you.’

It couldn’t get more straightforward than that. His words made her sit up straighter and she blurted the first thing that came to mind.

‘Hm. I’m not sure your mother’s daughter will be too happy to hear that.’

He went silent again and this time she was sure he’d cut the call. Way to go, she chided herself. You’ve scared him away with your big mouth. Happy now?

‘She’s…’ He cleared his throat.

So he hadn’t cut the call. She waited to hear what he had to say. Probably give some silly excuse.

‘She died. In a plane crash. Two years ago.’
