Nature’s Song

I stand as still as I can

Trying to hear every note and tune

Every beat and rhythm

Of everything that goes on around me

By day,

Birds chirp and sing, dogs run and bark

Children jump and play, cars speed by and honk

I listen very carefully

For I am afraid to lose even the slightest sound

And ruin the perfect melody

By night,

Grasshoppers and frogs, make their nocturnal noises

The sun, moon and stars bask in the eerie quiet

But yet not silence of the night

And I, even in my drift towards sleep

Attempt to grasp and to hold

Every part of every action and reaction

For therein lies what I call

The Song of Nature, Nature’s Song
