You feel it in your chest and stomach
When things really hurt
You feel it there too
When anxiety threatens
To swallow you whole
Chew and spit you out
Before repeating the cycle
Let’s not forget the hungerÂ
Or the flips and butterflies
When you like someone
In that way that lovers do
Did I also mention
The rapid beating
And involuntary turning
When fear slowly creeps
From the crown of your head
To the sole of your feet?
The cold hand that touches
And grabs hold
As jealousy slowly takes root
You feel it in your chest and stomach
